Manhattan Aero

Problems only in 4K, or no picture on a 4K TV? Check your TV's HDMI setting

Most 4K TVs have a setting that lets an HDMI input take the full 4K signal from an external box such as the Aero. On many TVs it has to be switched on for each input, and with it off the TV only accepts a reduced form of 4K. That can cause:

  • no picture on a 4K TV, while the Aero works on another TV
  • 4K that only runs at 25 or 30 frames per second
  • HDR not working

Each TV maker calls the setting something different. Find your TV below and switch it on for the HDMI input the Aero is plugged into. You can do this with the TV’s own remote even if there’s no picture from the Aero.

The setting belongs to one HDMI input. If you move the Aero to a different input on the TV, switch it on there too.

Samsung

The setting is called Input Signal Plus, or HDMI UHD Color on TVs from 2014 to 2018. Switch it on for the Aero’s input. The letters after the screen size in the model number give the year: for example, UE55KU6400 is a 2016 TV.

  • 2014 – 2015 (HU, JU, JS): Menu → Picture → Picture Options → HDMI UHD Color
  • 2016 (KU, KS): Settings → Picture → Expert Settings → HDMI UHD Color
  • 2017 – 2018 (MU, NU, and QLED models such as Q7F and Q7FN): Settings → General → External Device Manager → HDMI UHD Color
  • 2019 – 2021 (RU, TU, AU, and QLED models such as Q60R, Q60T and Q60A): Settings → General → External Device Manager → Input Signal Plus
  • 2022 – 2024 (BU, CU, DU, and QLED, Neo QLED and OLED models ending B, C or D): Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Input Signal Plus. On 2023 and 2024 TVs that have had a software update, it’s under Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → External Device Manager → Input Signal Plus.
  • 2025 onwards (an F or H after the series number, such as UE55U8000F or QE55Q7FA): Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → External Device Manager → Input Signal Plus
LG

The setting is called HDMI Deep Colour, or HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour on TVs from 2015 to 2020. Set it to 4K (or On) for the Aero’s input, while that input is showing. On LG’s LED TVs, the second letter of the series gives the year: UK is 2018, UQ is 2022, UT is 2024.

  • 2015 (UF): Settings → Advanced Settings → Picture → HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour
  • 2016 – 2017 (UH, UJ, SJ, and OLED B6, C6, B7, C7): Settings → All Settings → General → HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour
  • 2018 – 2020 (UK, SK, UM, SM, UN, and OLED B8 to CX): Settings → All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings → HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour
  • 2021 – 2022 (UP, UQ, and OLED A1 to G2): Settings → All Settings → General → Devices → HDMI Settings → HDMI Deep Colour. On 2022 TVs that have had a software update, it’s under General → External Devices → HDMI Settings.
  • 2023 – 2025 (UR, UT, UA, and OLED B3 to G5): Settings → All Settings → General → External Devices → HDMI Settings → HDMI Deep Colour
  • 2026: Settings → All Settings → System → External Devices → HDMI Settings → HDMI Deep Colour
Sony

Choose HDMI signal format, select the Aero’s input and set it to Enhanced format.

  • 2015 – 2016 Android TVs (such as X85C and XD93): HOME → Settings → External inputs → HDMI signal format
  • 2016 – 2019 (such as XD70, XE85, XF90 and XG81): HOME → Settings → Watching TV → External inputs → HDMI signal format. On these TVs, Enhanced format is only offered on HDMI 2 and HDMI 3.
  • Later 2019 onwards, including BRAVIA models: Settings → Channels & Inputs → External inputs → HDMI signal format (from 2021, press the Quick Settings button and choose Settings). On some newer models it’s called HDMI signal format/VRR; choose Enhanced format, not the Dolby Vision or VRR options.
Panasonic

The setting is called HDMI Auto Setting. Switch the TV to the Aero’s input first, then go to Menu → Setup → HDMI Auto Setting and choose Mode2, which supports the full 4K signal. (Mode1 is Panasonic’s compatibility setting, for devices that don’t work properly in Mode2.) On Panasonic’s Android TV models it’s usually Menu → Settings → Device Preferences → Inputs → HDMI Auto Setting, and on Fire TV models Settings → Display & Audio → Picture Settings → the input → HDMI Settings → HDMI Auto Setting.

Philips

The setting is called HDMI Ultra HD. Set it to Optimal for the Aero’s port (on 2015 – 2017 TVs, choose UHD 4:4:4/4:2:2).

  • Google TV models (2023 onwards): Settings → Channels and Inputs → Inputs → the HDMI port → HDMI Ultra HD
  • Most other models: Settings → General settings → HDMI Ultra HD → the HDMI port (on some models, Settings → All settings → General settings → Input sources → the HDMI port → HDMI Ultra HD)

The TV’s built-in Help has a keyword search: search for “HDMI Ultra HD”.

Toshiba

Where it is depends on the TV’s system:

  • Toshiba’s own Smart TV menu: Menu → Settings → System → Sources → the HDMI input → Enhanced
  • VIDAA (2023 onwards): Settings → System → HDMI & CEC → HDMI Format → Enhanced format. On some 2025 models it’s under Settings → Connection → HDMI & CEC.
  • Android TV: with the Aero’s input showing, Settings → Device Preferences → Inputs → HDMI EDID Version → EDID 2.0 or Auto EDID
  • Fire TV: Settings → Display & Audio → Picture Settings → the HDMI input → Advanced Settings → HDMI Input Mode → Mode 2 (2.0) or Auto
Other makes

Look in the TV’s picture, input or external device settings for an option such as HDMI Format, HDMI Mode or HDMI 2.0 format, and choose Enhanced, 2.0 or similar for the Aero’s input. On Hisense TVs it’s usually Settings → System → HDMI & CEC → HDMI Format → Enhanced format.

Still having trouble?

Menus vary between models and software versions, so if the setting isn’t exactly where we’ve said, look for it nearby. If it still isn’t there, get in touch with your TV’s make and model number, which is on a label on the back of the TV, and we’ll look it up for you.

If the setting is on and you still have no picture, check the cable as well: No picture or a flickering picture? Check the HDMI cable.
