Why do series recordings show “Searching…” in the Schedule, and sometimes disappear?

If you see series record­ings with Search­ing…” in your Freeview Sched­ule that later dis­ap­pear, this is due to how Series IDs are managed.

Each series record­ing uses a unique Series ID assigned by broad­casters. If a Series ID isn’t used for any broad­casts with­in 12 weeks, it can be reused for a dif­fer­ent pro­gramme. To avoid record­ing the wrong show, your record­er auto­mat­ic­ally removes series record­ings linked to IDs that have been inact­ive for 12 weeks.

This is why Search­ing…” entries van­ish – they’ve passed the 12-week lim­it and are cleared to pre­vent mistakes.

If you want to record the series again, set up a new series record­ing when it returns to the schedule.
