Why do series recordings show “Searching…” in the Schedule, and sometimes disappear?
If you see series recordings with “Searching…” in your Freeview Schedule that later disappear, this is due to how Series IDs are managed.
Each series recording uses a unique Series ID assigned by broadcasters. If a Series ID isn’t used for any broadcasts within 12 weeks, it can be reused for a different programme. To avoid recording the wrong show, your recorder automatically removes series recordings linked to IDs that have been inactive for 12 weeks.
This is why “Searching…” entries vanish – they’ve passed the 12-week limit and are cleared to prevent mistakes.
If you want to record the series again, set up a new series recording when it returns to the schedule.
