Does the T4 need an internet connection?
No, the T4 works perfectly as a Freeview TV box without the internet. You’ll still be able to:
- Watch all Freeview channels
- Use the 7‑day TV Guide to browse and set reminders
- Pause live TV as normal
However, connecting to the internet (via Wi-Fi or Ethernet) adds useful features like:
- Catch-up and on-demand streaming services
- Enhanced programme information with images
- Browse the last 7‑days in the TV Guide
- Search across TV Guide and on-demand content
- Automatic software updates
Keeping up to date without internet
If you don’t connect to the internet, you can still manually update your software:
- Visit the T4’s software updates page
- Download the update
- Install it using a USB stick
When you register your T4, you can also choose to receive email updates about new releases. This way, you can decide if a software update is worth installing manually, especially if it’s only for internet-related features.
