Blimey – strap yourself in. The next three months are absolutely jam-packed with live sport, and the only ticket you’ll need is your remote. From July through September we’re getting wall-to-wall drama – a roaring Lionesses title defence, a week still to go at Wimbledon, heroic rides through the Alps and a Rugby World Cup on home turf. And it’s all on good-old free-to-air telly. No subscriptions, no sneaky add-ons, just the nation sharing one long, glorious summer of shouting at the screen (in the nicest possible way).

Wimbledon - BBC (30th June - 13th July)

Thank heavens for that Centre Court roof, eh? While the rest of us are melting, the tennis continues regardless. There's something wonderfully British about watching Wimbledon from the comfort of your living room while the thermometer hits ridiculous heights outside.

Jack Draper's early exit has left us all feeling a bit deflated – there's nothing quite like having your hopes dashed before you've even finished your first Pimm's of the tournament. Still, that's Wimbledon for you – it serves up surprises when you least expect them.

But don't let Jack's disappointment put you off. The championships are far from over, and there's still plenty of drama to unfold. Plus, let's be honest, strawberries and cream might be a bit much in this heat anyway – perhaps a nice cold drink and your sofa is exactly where you want to be.

Tour de France - ITV4 (5th - 27th July)

What perfect timing! Just as we're all wilting in the heat, along comes three weeks of cycling through stunning French countryside. There's something deeply satisfying about watching those poor souls pedalling up mountains in blazing sunshine while you're safely indoors with a cold drink.

ITV4's coverage is absolutely brilliant – Gary Imlach and the gang make even the flattest stages compelling viewing. And after watching cyclists tackle the Alps in 35-degree heat, our own weather complaints seem rather trivial, don't they?

Women's Euros - BBC & ITV (2nd July - 27th July)

The Lionesses are back to defend their crown, and what a group they've landed in! That clash with Wales is going to be absolutely electric – you can bet the Welsh will be up for it. With this heat, those evening kick-offs are a godsend. Perfect timing for a cool drink and some edge-of-your-seat football.

FIFA Club World Cup - Channel 5 (14th June - 13th July)

Channel 5's doing us proud with free coverage of this expanded tournament. Manchester City, Chelsea, and some proper global heavyweights – it's like having a month-long football festival delivered straight to your sofa. Much more civilised than standing in a sweltering stadium, if you ask us.

Women's Rugby World Cup - BBC (22nd August - 27th September)

By the time this kicks off, we might actually be able to venture outside again! The Red Roses are hosting, and they'll be desperate to make amends for that heartbreaking final defeat. There's nothing quite like a home World Cup to get the blood pumping.

Quick Mentions

Cricket's Hundred keeps the sixes flying on BBC through August, while Channel 4's got the British Grand Prix live on 6th July. Formula E hits London's ExCeL on ITV4 (26-27 July), and BBC Two serves up nightly highlights from The Open (17-20 July).

So there you have it – a summer's worth of sporting brilliance, all available for free and perfectly timed for when stepping outside feels like opening an oven door. The only question is: which event has you most excited?

P.S. If life dares to clash with kick-off, a T4•R Freeview recorder lets you pause, rewind and record every free-to-air epic. No contracts, just total control.
