This is a big one.
From Thursday 11th June, the HBO Max app is available on the Manhattan Aero. Given HBO Max only launched in the UK at the end of March, that’s a fast and very welcome addition to the Aero line-up.
And for anyone who loves a proper box set, a big film night, or the occasional bit of live sport, it matters.
Why HBO Max matters #
HBO Max brings together HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros. films, DC and more in one app. For UK viewers, that’s still very new.
HBO has been responsible for some of the most talked-about telly of the last 25 years. The Sopranos. The Wire. Game of Thrones. Succession. The White Lotus. The Last of Us.
Not a bad little list, that.
Whether you want to start from the beginning, catch up on something you missed, or revisit a favourite now you finally have the time, HBO Max gives you a direct way to watch HBO in the UK.
HBO without the old Sky Atlantic habit #
For a long time, UK viewers tended to think of HBO as something that lived on Sky Atlantic. That made sense. It’s how lots of us first watched those shows here.
HBO Max changes the picture. It’s now the home for HBO in the UK, where you’ll find new series, Max Originals and the deep HBO back catalogue in one place.
So whether you want to go back to the start of The Sopranos, work through The Wire, return to Westeros with Game of Thrones or catch up before the next big HBO drama takes over the conversation, HBO Max is the app you’ll want.
Proper film-night territory #
It’s not only television, either.
HBO Max is also home to the Warner Bros. film library, which means a night in could just as easily be The Dark Knight, Dune, Barbie, The Matrix, the Harry Potter films or The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In other words: this is not just another app tile on the home screen. It’s a serious library of telly and film.
And if your household is anything like ours, that matters. Sometimes you want prestige drama. Sometimes you want a superhero epic. Sometimes you want to watch hobbits walk across New Zealand for three hours and call it a perfect evening.
And then there’s TNT Sports #
Here’s the part that may surprise a few people: HBO Max is now the UK streaming home of TNT Sports.
TNT Sports is a separate plan rather than part of the standard HBO Max entertainment subscription, but it means the same app on your Aero can also bring you Champions League and Premier League football, the FA Cup, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Grand Slam tennis, cycling, snooker and plenty more besides.
So HBO Max is not only about box sets and film nights. For sports fans, it’s also the new streaming route into a very serious line-up of live sport.
How HBO Max fits with Aero #
Aero is still all about giving you great telly without a monthly TV contract. You get Freely, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, YouTube, TiVo+ and more without needing an aerial, a dish or a subscription.
That part hasn’t changed. It’s the heart of what Aero does.
But we also know lots of viewers want a simple way to bring their favourite paid streaming apps into the same place. That’s why the arrival of HBO Max matters, and we’re delighted to welcome it to the Aero line-up. Box sets, film nights, live sport and free TV – that’s a pretty strong little package. It joins Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video on Aero, giving you another major option when you choose to add one.
No big TV contract. No installation. No running cables through the house. Just the free telly you love, with the paid streaming services you choose, all in one simple place.
