There are a few possible reasons.
Your SX is not connected properly
Ensure your aerial is connected to your SX and an HDMI or AV cable is connected from your SX to your TV.
When your SX is turned on, the LED on the front is blue.
The correct input on your TV is not selected
Press the GUIDE button on your remote control. This displays the TV Guide, making it easy to tell when you find the right input.
To change inputs, most TV remotes use a button labelled ‘AV’, ‘SOURCE’, ‘INPUT’, or with a TV icon and arrow. Each press should cycle through your inputs. Check your TV's manual if necessary.
Once you find the input displaying the TV Guide, press EXIT and check if live TV is working. Try changing to BBC 1 by pressing '1' on the remote control. If the SX says there is No Signal, you may have a problem with your aerial. To retune:
- Press MENU
- Select 'Settings'
- Select 'Tuning'
- Select 'Smart Retune' and follow the on-screen instructions
An incompatible HDMI resolution has been selected
If you are using HDMI, the SX may be set to an HDMI resolution that your TV does not support:
- Normally the SX is set to auto detect the HDMI resolution but this can fail with some TVs.
- The SX can also be manually set to a resolution in the Picture & Sound section of the Settings menu. This could cause an issue if you set a resolution (e.g. 1080p), then move the SX to another TV that doesn't support that resolution.
The SX can automatically cycle through the available resolutions until you find one that works:
- Turn the SX on and wait 30 seconds.
- Press MENU.
- Press & Hold ‘0’ for 5 seconds.
- The SX will try each of the 3 HD resolutions for 15 seconds in this order: 1080p, 1080i and 720p. Select ‘Confirm’ when you can see the picture.
HD channels are broadcast with Dolby Digital audio. If you cannot hear any sound on HD channels, it is likely that your TV does not support Dolby Digital but Surround Sound is selected in the Picture & Sound section of the Settings menu. Change the 'Audio Output' setting to 'Stereo PCM' to resolve the issue.
HD channels are broadcast with Dolby Digital audio. The SX detects when your TV or AV receiver supports Dolby Digital and 'passes through' the audio unaltered as required by Dolby. If you prefer to adjust the volume with the SX's remote, change the 'Audio Output' setting in the Picture & Sound section of the Settings menu to 'Stereo PCM'. The SX will the decode the Dolby Digital audio and output stereo audio instead.
Your PIN can be reset using the master PIN. In order to protect minors, we don't publish the master PIN, so please contact us and we will give it to you.
Once you have the master PIN, go to the PIN section of the Settings menu and choose the 'Change PIN' option. When it asks for your PIN, enter the Master PIN and then follow the instructions to create a new one.
The T1 has a power-saving feature called 'Auto Standby' that takes place after three hours when no buttons have been pressed on the remote control or front panel. This can be turned off in the System section of the Settings menu.
The SX will automatically check for an update each night and install one if it’s available. This can be disabled by turning ‘Automatic Updates’ off in the System section of the Settings menu. You can also manually check for an update by selecting ‘Check for Update Now’.
Please note that unless the update is considered critical, it will only be released over the internet and not broadcast over the air, so we recommend keeping your SX connected to your internet router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable. If you can’t connect your SX to the internet, the update can be installed using USB instead.
USB Updates for the SX can be found in the 'Software Updates' section above. Before downloading, please check the software version displayed in the Information menu of your SX to determine if it is up to date. To do so, press MENU, select 'Help' and then 'Information'. Updates are provided in a 'zip' file that contains the main upgrade file, a PDF with updating instructions and another one with release notes about the update.
To 'unzip' the file and extract the contents using Windows, right click on the file and choose the option to 'Extract All'. On a Mac, simply double click the file. You may find it more convenient to do this after copying the zip file to your Desktop.
After extracting the files, follow the updating instructions in the included PDF.
There are three possible issues:
- The USB stick is not compatible with the receiver.
- The USB device is not formatted using the FAT32 filesystem.
- The USB device does not contain the correct upgrade file.
If you're having difficulties, contact us and we will send you a USB pre-loaded with the software via normal post.
The USB connection is for software updates only.
Your manufacturer may not have programmed the remote control with the ability to control the SX. Universal Electronics have programmed their Universal Remote to control the SX using the code SAT 3735.
You don't need to connect both the cables. You can use either one of them to connect to the Manhattan SX. Two cables are needed recording products like Sky+.
No, the channels are only broadcast via satellite.
Freesat services are mostly broadcast from the Astra 2E satellite at 28.2°East. This satellite is targeted at the UK and ensures good reception on the smaller dish sizes typically in use by Freesat users. However, for viewers in continental Europe, reception will be limited as they are outside the footprint of the satellite. Freesat is and has always been intended for viewers in the UK only. For more information, please contact Freesat on 0345 313 0051.
v1.10 Software Update
Released 23/08/21
This is a very minor update that resolves an issue that can cause no audio on temporary BBC Red Button TV channels (e.g. used to show extra Wimbledon matches).
Please note:
- 1.09 was released only to the factory and is functionally no different to 1.08.
- 1.08 is still the version being transmitted for automatic updates from earlier software versions. As only one minor issue has been resolved since 1.08 we are not releasing 1.10 as an automatic update. If you want to update to 1.10 please use a USB stick and follow the instructions below.
- If your SX has a version prior to 1.08 then when your SX is connected to a valid satellite signal and left in standby, it will update automatically to 1.08 overnight, as long as you haven't disabled automatic updates in the System Settings menu.
How to Update
To check your current version, press MENU and select: Help > System Info. If the version is lower than 1.08, you should update.
Update by Satellite Broadcast to 1.08
Note: 1.08 is still the version being transmitted for automatic updates from earlier software versions. As only one minor issue has been resolved since 1.08 we are not releasing 1.10 as an automatic update. If you want to update to 1.10 please use a USB stick and follow the instructions below.
- Your SX needs to be connected to a valid satellite signal.
- To update straight away, press MENU and select: Settings > System > Check for update now.
- Your SX will update automatically overnight whilst in standby, as long as you haven't disabled automatic updates in the System Settings menu.
- When you turn your SX on for the first time after it has updated, a message will be displayed confirming the update has taken place successfully.

Previous Updates
v1.08 Software Update
Released 03/08/20
Improved
- Moved ‘Edit Protected Channels’ and ‘Show/Hide Protected Channels’ into their own ‘Protected Channels’ sub-menu of the Channels menu.
Resolved
- “Add Reminder” could be shown for a programme on now instead of “Watch” and pressing OK would display error “Unable to set wakeup timer for current event”.
v1.07 Software Update
Released 11/11/19
The following changes are from v1.04. Please note that v1.05 and v1.06 were not released publicly as updates.
Improved
- Channel lists are now persistent: After selecting a list in the TV Guide (e.g. Favourites or HD Channels), as long as the channel being viewed is on that list when you re-enter the TV Guide, the list will continue to be selected. Changing to a channel not on the list or pressing Standby will reset the list back to All Channels.
- Wi-Fi can be disabled before any Wi-Fi network has been configured.
- When Wi-Fi is disabled the antennas are now totally disabled and no electromagnetic radiation can be detected from the SX.
Resolved
- The TV Guide would unnecessarily scroll ahead 30 mins on every hour and half hour, even if ‘now’ was not in view.
- The system could freeze during boot-up while fetching the information for the Guide.
- Deleted regional services could be added again unexpectedly after a retune.
- No audio would be heard using the Sony HT-SF150 Soundbar on HD channels when the Audio Output was set to ‘Surround’.
- Sony Crime and Sony Crime+ could not be tuned as manual channels.
- The Now and Next information would not show for Channel 4 HD when tuned as a manual channel.
v1.04 Software Update
Released 10/01/2019
Improved
- Copyright protection has been removed from the analogue output.
- When changing lists in the TV Guide, the first channel on the list will always be highlighted.
Resolved
- Internet Software Update failed to work when Network Settings were manually configured.
v1.03 Software Update
Released 22/11/2018
Resolved
- Deleted channels were being added back again after the SX performed the Automatic Service Update during standby.
- SCR could sometimes be active during Install even though the user had not selected it. This would cause the installation to fail in a non-SCR environment.
- No Audio/Video could be displayed when exiting a Freesat Retune during signal lock.
v1.02 Software Update
Released 15/06/2018
Improvements to the TV Guide
- The first 4 days of programme listings are quickly collected during start up so that you can browse what’s on straight away.
- The mini TV will display live TV instantly after entering the Guide.
- The remaining listings will continue to be collected in the background while you watch TV. However, if you navigate to an incomplete day in the Guide, the mini TV will temporarily be suspended while the SX quickly completes collecting the rest.
Enhancements
- The SX will always detect the availability of HD alternatives. Previously this was not the case because some broadcasters are not reliably using the official method to signal them. V1.02 introduces an improved way to detect them.
- Assorted User Interface improvements.
Resolved
- The SX did not automatically detect the maximum resolution of a TV connected by HDMI and instead would set it to 1080i.
- Random crashes when watching BBC NEWS HD.
- The Signal Info screen would not display for Manual Channels.
- When the SX is connected to a Switch that supports both SCR and Legacy modes, disabling SCR on the SX did not activate Legacy mode automatically.
- Assorted minor bug fixes.
