After being trailed and teased with so much hope, 2021 hasn’t exactly gone off with the bang we all hoped for. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t wonderful things to look forward to in the coming months - especially in the delightful world of british television.

We have rounded up five programmes that we cannot wait to be released this year. The list includes shows you may already love that will be releasing a second series, as well as a few brand spanking new ones to get you excited for the year ahead.

These will all be available to watch on your Manhattan TV box of choice, so all you have to do is pick your favourites, sit back, and enjoy!

Back

Starring Peep Show’s David Mitchell and Robert Webb, a long-awaited second series of Simon Blackwell’s sitcom Back will be back on Channel 4 on January 21st. The programme follows the story of two foster brothers (played by Mitchell and Webb) whose sibling rivalry is amplified by the passing of Stephen’s father.

    A Very English Scandal

We should caveat, according to RadioTimes this one hasn’t been given the official stamp of approval just yet. But it has been reported that the BBC plan to bring back ‘A Very English Scandal’ and it is getting the anthology treatment. A new three-part series is expected to return focusing on a new central character - Margaret Cambpell, the Duchess of Argyll.

    Chivalry

On Channel 4 Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani will be starring in a satirical comedy on film industry romances in a post #MeToo era. Coogan, famous for portraying the character of Alan Partridge, and Solemani will play a couple forced together by studio executives in an attempt to save a failing film production.

Watch out for this six-part series in 2021 - exact date still to be confirmed.

    Baptise season 2

Back for a second series, by popular demand, is BBC ONE’s Baptise.

Over seven million viewers tuned in to watch the first season, which starred Tcheky Karyo as the lead role of detective Julien Baptise. He, of course will be returning for the new season alongside a new addition - Killing Eve’s Fiona Shaw, who will be playing a British Ambassador named Emma Chambers.

The exact date of release is yet unknown, but with production finishing up in the summer, we can expect season two to make an appearance in the first half of 2021!

      This Is Going to Hurt

Based on the hit novel by Adam Kay, ‘This is Going to Hurt’ is being adapted for a comedy drama on BBC Two this year. Playing the lead NHS worker struggling to deal with the demands of the job will be award winning actor, and former star of ‘A Very British Scandal’, Ben Whishaw.
